Frequently Asked Questions

As of October 16, 2026, the spot price of gold is $4,163.90 per troy ounce, $133.87 per gram and $133,872 per kilogram. The price has changed — in the last 24 hours. Prices on this page update every minute.

One gram of pure (24K) gold is worth about $133.74 today. A gram of 22K gold is worth about $122.72, 21K about $117.14 and 18K about $100.40, based on the live spot price.

The spot price is the current market price for immediate delivery of one troy ounce of pure gold. It is formed by continuous trading between banks, refiners and investors in London, New York (COMEX), Shanghai and other markets, and it is the benchmark used to price coins, bars and jewellery.

Gold is weighed in troy ounces. One troy ounce equals 31.1035 grams, about 10% heavier than the ordinary (avoirdupois) ounce of 28.35 grams. One kilogram contains 32.15 troy ounces.

The gold price reacts to the US dollar, interest rates and inflation expectations, central-bank purchases, investment flows into gold ETFs, geopolitical risk and physical demand for jewellery and bars. Because gold trades almost 24 hours a day, the price moves continuously.

Gold trades around the clock from Sunday evening to Friday evening (New York time), moving through the Asian, European and American sessions. Prices are quiet at weekends, when the last Friday price is shown.

Retail coins, bars and jewellery carry a premium over spot to cover fabrication, shipping, insurance, dealer margin and, for jewellery, making charges and taxes. Smaller items usually have a higher premium per gram.

The gold/silver ratio is 72.5, meaning one ounce of gold buys about 72.5 ounces of silver at today's prices.

The highest gold price in our records is $5,020.00 per ounce, reached on Feb 15, 2026. See the full gold price history for long-term data back to 1833.

Gold has historically preserved purchasing power over long periods and often performs well during crises, but it pays no interest and its price can be volatile in the short term. Many investors hold a modest share of their portfolio in gold for diversification. This site does not give financial advice.
